Phi Beta Mu Directors’ Band

The International Bandmaster's Fraternity Phi Beta Mu began in the State of Texas as a result of the respect and appreciation that its founder, Colonel Earl D. Irons, had for his professional associates.

Col. Irons, Bandmaster and Chairman of Fine Arts at North Texas Agricultural College (now University of Texas at Arlington), envisioned an organization that would honor outstanding band directors whose dedication and devotion to their profession were paramount. Annually at the TBA Convention/Clinic, Phi Beta Mu selects and honors an outstanding young bandmaster and an outstanding contributor in the state. The Fraternity also sponsors clinics at the TBA and TMEA Conventions.
