The members of the U.S. Air Force Band of the West are highly skilled professional musicians who come from colleges and universities across the nation to serve their country. The Concert Band is featured annually in concerts and clinics at the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention/Clinic, and has appeared in concert with the San Antonio, San Angelo, and Dallas Symphony Orchestras.
The Band regularly performs before high-ranking military and civilian dignitaries and has performed for every United States President since John F. Kennedy.
One particularly notable performance was for a memorial service for the astronauts killed in the space shuttle Challenger disaster, January 1986 in Houston, Texas.
The Concert Band travels more than 10,000 miles annually, performing at numerous events on military bases and media-sponsored tours throughout Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and Louisiana.
The Band of the West is also an important part of San Antonio’s arts community, with yearly presentations of "Fiesta in Blue," for San Antonio’s annual "Fiesta Celebration," and "Holiday in Blue" during the Christmas season. The Concert band has earned its reputation as one of the finest military concert bands in America.
