Work Smarter, Not Harder. The integration of "Finale" and "SmartMusic" in the band classroom.

This clinic will demonstrate how "Finale" and "SmartMusic" can be integrated into the year round curriculum for band. It will include demonstrations, hand-outs, and free software (Finale notepad.)

Stephen Henry is in his 15th year of band directing. He received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Angelo State University in 1987. There, he studied Musicology under Dr. Doreen Grimes a reknown composer and musicologist. During his junior and senior year, he worked as Dr. Grimes' Undergraduate Teaching Assistant. Mr. Henry studied tuba under instructor Ed Surface. He studied voice and conducting under Paula Homer who is currently the director of Opera at the University of North Texas.  Mr. Henry was in the A.S.U. Golden Ram Band for all four college years under the direction of one of the finest band directors, Harris Brinson. Mr. Henry attended the University of North Texas in 1988-90 working towards a Master of Music Theory degree. While there, Mr. Henry was a graduate assistant for Henry Gibbons as well as toured and performed with many ensembles.

Mr. Henry has 73 Division I awards to his record, for a total of 22 composite Division I ratings for his bands. His bands have won numerous UIL Sweepstakes Awards. As a student, Mr. Henry performed at the TMEA and TBA conventions and is thrilled to be back as a clinician this year.

Mr. Henry's hobbies include hunting, fishing, golf, tennis, racquetball. He raises cattle and maintains a small family ranch near Cuero. He graduated from Sabinal High School in 1983. His father still farms and ranches in the Sabinal area .  Mr. Henry's farming and ranching background makes him feel at home in communities like the ones in the Industrial I.S.D., where agriculture is a major industry.
