Intermediate Series - Euphonium: Developing Your Middle School Euphonium Section

This session will focus on tackling common problems that occur in a middle school euphonium section such as: dealing with students "switching over" from other brass instruments, reading bass and treble clef, intonation and tone production, and equipment.

Staff Sergeant Heather L. Kirschner is from Allegany, New York. In 1996, she received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Euphonium Performance (magna cum laude) from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. She continued her education at Indiana University, receiving a Master of Music Degree in Euphonium Performance in 1996. In 1998 she was awarded the performers certificate for musical excellence from Indiana. Her teachers include Dr. Brian Bowman, Daniel Perantoni, M. Dee Stewart, Don Harry, James DeSano, Allen Kofsky, and Rex Martin.

Heather became the principle Euphonium of the USAF Band of the West in 1998. Skilled on both euphonium and trombone, she performs in both Concert Band and Ceremonial Band on euphonium and in the Dimensions In Blue Jazz Ensemble on tenor trombone. She is currently professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas.
