Gary Robbins

Gary Robbins has been teaching for thirty years in Texas public schools. He is currently in his twenty-first year of teaching for the Rusk Independent School District. Mr. Robbins was named Teacher of the Year for the district in 1999. During his career, his bands have won twenty- three UIL Sweepstakes Awards.

Mr. Robbins received his BME from Stephen F. Austin State University. He has served as Region XXI TMEA President and on the UIL Music Advisory Committee as 3A representative for fifteen years. He served as the State President of ATSSB from 2001-2003 as well as President-Elect from 1999-2001. He is the current President of the Texas Bandmasters Association. He has served on several state committees for both TMEA and UIL. He has been a clinician throughout the East Texas area.

Several of Mr. Robbins� former students currently teach music or are involved in playing their instruments professionally. He is a member of TMEA, TBA, ATSSB and Phi Beta Mu.

He and his wife, Joan, have two children, David, age 19 (a freshman at Texas A&M), and Rebecca, age 17 (a junior at Rusk High School). He and his family are active members of First Baptist Church in Rusk where Mr. Robbins serves as a deacon, a Sunday School Teacher and plays in the church orchestra.
