Gary Robbins

Gary Robbins has been teaching for twenty-five years in Texas public schools. He is currently in his seventeenth year as director of the Rusk High School Band where he also serves as Music Supervisor for the District.

While at Rusk, his bands have been consistent Sweepstakes winners. Mr. Robbins received his BME from Stephen F. Austin State University. He has been Region XXI TMEA President and currently serves on the UIL Music Advisory Committee. He has served on state committees for both TMEA and UIL. He has directed and worked the SFA Summer Band Camps for several years. He has served as a clinician at TBA. He has been a clinician throughout the East Texas area.

Several of Mr. Robbins' former students currently teach music education or are involved in playing their instruments professionally. He is a member of TMEA, TBA, Phi Beta Mu and ATSSB. He served as the State President of ATSSB from 2001-2003 as well as President-Elect from 1999-2001. He is the current Treasurer for Region XXI ATSSB.

Mr. Robbins was named Teacher of the Year for Rusk ISD in 1997-98. He and his wife Joan have two children, David, age 15, and Rebecca, age 13. He and his family are active members of the First Baptist Church in Rusk where Mr. Robbins serves as a deacon, Sunday School Class Teacher and directs the hand bell choir.
