


Don Haynes has been the Director of Bands at LBJ High School in Austin, Texas for 30 years. During his tenure, the LBJ Bands have won national recognition- winning 1st place honors at festivals in the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Oklahoma, Florida, Louisiana, and Texas. In 1996, the LBJ Marching Band represented the state of Texas at the New Years Day parade in London, England. The LBJ marching band has appeared at the UIL state marching contest several times. This proud organization consistently wins UIL Sweepstakes honors. On the international scene, the LBJ Band has attended festival celebrations in London, England, and Paris, France (1996 & 2000).
Mr. Haynes is often invited to adjudicate band competitions across the state. He often performs as guest conductor for Texas all-region bands, and all-city festivals. In 2003, he conducted the Louisiana All-State Concert Band. He proudly serves on committees for the Texas UIL committees whose charge is to review rules and policy for state music and sports organizations.
Don's second passion is officiating high school and college basketball. He has served on several officiating crews for Texas UIL regional basketball tournament championships. In 1996, 1997,1998, Haynes officiated the UIL Girls State 5A-UIL basketball championship tournament (Austin, Texas). Don has served two terms as president of the Austin Basketball Chapter.
In 1994, Mr. Haynes was awarded the coveted Frank Denius Award, presented by the Texas University Interscholastic League for his work as an outstanding music educator and leader in Texas. Don has served on many occasions as a guest conductor and band clinician in Texas, Florida, Louisiana, and New Mexico.
