Brett Johnson

Brett Johnson has just completed his twelfth year at The Woodlands High School. During his time at The Woodlands the band has grown from 160 to over 300 members. In the last twelve years, The Woodlands Band has earned consistent UIL Sweepstakes Awards and accomplishments including the following: competed at the state level in the Texas State Honor Band process, has been a finalist at the State Marching Band Contest, performed at The Texas State Wind Ensemble Contest, marched in two Gubernatorial Inauguration Parades, performed at the Bands of America National Concert Band Festival, has been a Bands of America Regional Finalist fifteen consecutive times, has been named a National Marching Band Contest Semi Finalist and Finalist, and has had the honor of performing at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago.

Mr. Johnson earned his undergraduate degree at McNeese University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. While there, he studied with Earl Parquette, Dr. Terrance Mahady, and Dennis Hopkins. His graduate work was done at West Texas A&M University where Mr. Johnson was a student of Dr. Gary Garner. Mr. Johnson is currently a student of Eddie Green, Director Emeritus of The Moores School of Music Wind Ensemble at The University of Houston.

The Woodlands Band and Mr. Johnson also benefit from the help of Mr. Matthew Mclnturf, Director of Bands, Sam Houston State University, Mr. Richard Crain, Director of Music, Spring ISD, retired, and Mr. Orville Kelley, Swicegood Music Company, Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Prior to his time at The Woodlands, Mr. Johnson taught at Lee High School in Tyler, Texas, assisted Ed Schutz at McCullough High School in The Woodlands and taught at Leesville High School in Leesville, Louisiana.

Mr. Johnson has served as Band Chairman for CMEA Region IX and is currently on the Advisory Board for Bands of America. He is active as a clinician and adjudicator throughout Texas.

Mr. Johnson would like to thank the many colleagues, students and mentors that have made a profound impact on his life both personally and professionally.

Brett, his wife Cynthia, and their two children, Jacob and Kevin, reside in The Woodlands. His professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Phi Beta Mu Honorary Bandmasters Fraternity.
