Teaching Rhythm Through Multiple Experiences

Dr. Curtis Tredway

Curtis Tredway conducts the UTEP Symphonic Band and teaches classes in instrumental pedagogy, marching band techniques, secondary music education and supervises student teachers.

He holds the degrees of Bachelor of Music Education from Florida State University, the Master of Music Education and the Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Tredway taught in the public schools of Florida for six years, including a position with the Tate High School Band of Gonzalez, Florida.

A highly sought after arranger, he has written over 150 charts for marching band, in addition to those for jazz band, wind ensemble, and synthesizer ensemble. High school and college marching bands across the country have played his music.

Dr. Tredway is also an active clinician and adjudicator. His professional affiliations include Music Educators National Conference, Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Mu Alpha, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Florida Bandmasters Association. He is currently the Director of the Marching Band and Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Texas at El Paso.
